Do you know Jesus?

“Have you ever heard about Nelson Mandela?” someone might ask you. “Sure, I know him. He was an amazing man who did great things for South Africa” you might respond. But do you? Really? Have you ever had a coffee with him? Did you phone him up on his birthday? Did you attend his wedding? Did he know you? We use the phrase so easily. I know Einstein. I know Elvis. I know Jesus.  What we really mean is that we know about  them. Surely there is a world of difference between the knowledge I have of Elvis vs how well I know my husband. When we read the Bible, REALLY read the Bible, we encounter

Know what you are wearing – How to share the gospel in 2 minutes.

~ By Emma Elstadt My dad always asks me, “If someone ever came up to you, and asked you about God, what will you answer?” This week it hit me. Do I know enough to teach someone about God in two minutes? In the next few weeks we will be teaching about the messages behind our T-shirts, and try equip you, so that if someone asks about what you’re wearing, you’ll be able to answer them. Let’s start with Good News. “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.” -John 3:16 This is the good news. God sent His one and only Son, so that we can have a whole, everlasting life if we believe and trust in Him. He went […]

Prayer changes things – “War Room” Movie Review

“Raise up Warriors, Lord, that will fight on their knees, who will worship You with their whole hearts” – Miss Clara prays in the movie War Room. And she is just such a warrior; a lady wholeheartedly dedicated to her God and seeking Him above all else in her life and through prayer. Calling COURAGEOUS Fathers

“Honor Begins at home” is the slogan of new movie: Courageous. The movie about four law-enforcement officers is about facing their greatest challenge of all: Fatherhood. Some Facts on Fatherhood (Excerpt from http://www.humblepie.tv/projects/current-projects/courageous.html ) Fatherless homes produce: 63 percent of youth suicides (Bureau of the Census) 90 percent of all homeless and runaway children (CDC) 85 percent of all children with behavioral disorders (CDC) 85 percent of all youths in prisons (Fulton Co. Georgia jail populations, TX Dept. of Corrections 1992) (All Pro Dads, © 2010 Family First) No substitute. As a male parent, a father brings unique contributions to the job of parenting that a mother cannot. There is no substitute for a father’s love, involvement and presence in the life of his children. As noted sociologist David Popenoe explains, “Fathers are far more than just ‘second […]

The Power of Good News

The Power of Good News ~ By Riaan Viljoen  A year ago I went on Outreach to Zambia with a team from my church. One day we went to do evangelism on the streets. We went out excited and tried to talk to a lot of people we saw in the market place. However, although the people seemed polite, there was no real openness to the gospel. Everyone we spoke to either already knew God or said only what they thought we wanted to hear. There had been many missionaries to this area in the past and it seemed like people only “played along” in order to get something. At the end of the day we were discouraged, not really having seen any impact. The next day, having prayed for strategy, we went out again, but […]

5 Reasons I love Festivals and 1 Reason I don’t…

After 5 years of putting up In the Gap Clothing stalls at markets and Festivals all over the country, I have had my fair share of Festival Fun. And I still love going….uhm…most of the time. Here are my reasons why I love South African Festivals: 1. A Great Family Outing South African Festivals really have something for everyone. Great food stalls for dad, craft market for mom and crazy rides and fun activities for the kids. I love watching families come for the day, pushing the pram, talking and having fun. And my favourite Family Festival would have to be the Strawberry Festival, yearly at the Redberry Farm in George. Great activities for the family from picking your own strawberries to getting lost in a maze. 2. Pancakes Yes. Really! I don’t what makes market pancakes […]

Blending in, or standing out?

When I think about the plan of God for His people, and the fact that He made us into His image, it amazes me how much faith He puts in His creation. Astounding really! He is actually looking for people to reflect Him on earth. Yet we know how easy it is to just go with the flow of life. When we feel tired, drained and stressed, we tend to give into the pressures of circumstances and situations. But He call us to be His peculiar people! A People who chooses to be different and to stand out in a crowd. A People persistent in faith and forgiveness. A People living in joy instead of anger, in love instead of hate. I am not saying this is easy, but then again it’s not supposed to be, otherwise everyone would choose this road. Everyday life like […]

Making T-shirts – the Screen printing process

How does Screenprinting work? About two years ago, when my husband and I started this business, Screenprinting was a foreign idea to me. I looked at all the equipment that we brought home and listened to the processes with a blank look and wondered how I would ever be able to master this technique in our business.    Now a year later I am amazed at what I’ve learned along the way and very grateful to a lot of people and resources that have helped get us this far… With that in mind I would like to share with you the basics of our screen printing process and maybe point you to some resources that have helped me get started!  1. Get an idea…. My husband had a dream about printing Christian T-shirts and now also get most of […]

The Power of Words – Rice Experiment

(You can try this at home kids!) After hearing about this experiment from a friend, I was very keen to try this for myself. You see, the Bible says:  “Death and Life are in the power of the tongue, And those who love it, will eat its fruit” (Prov 18:21) but is it possible to scientifically prove this? The answer is Yes! And after a month of speaking ” life and death” over  two small jars of rice we saw the massive impact and realized for ourselves what power there is in our tongues. Here’s what we did (and how you can do it too) * On a day that we had some rice for lunch, we took some of the leftovers and put them in two clean jars that looked exactly alike. (You can sterilize […]
